Berlin is using one of its scarcest resources in a surprising way.

Around 3,300 hectares of land are dedicated to parking private cars.
Thatโ€™s ~๐Ÿญ๐Ÿฌร— more space than ๐—ฎ๐—น๐—น public playgrounds combined, even though ๐Ÿฐ๐Ÿฏ% of households ๐—ฑ๐—ผ๐—ปโ€™๐˜ own a car.

๐Ÿ“Š New data from the Mobilitรคt in Deutschland (MiD) study shows:
โ€ข Nearly 50% of cars in Germany donโ€™t move on an average day
โ€ข In 2008, this was only one third
โ€ข Effectively, ~25% of traffic space is used for private storage, not mobility

๐—”๐˜ ๐˜๐—ต๐—ฒ ๐˜€๐—ฎ๐—บ๐—ฒ ๐˜๐—ถ๐—บ๐—ฒ:
โ€ข Walking is at its highest level since 2008
โ€ข Cycling accounts for 11% of all kilometres travelled
โ€ข Active mobility is clearly on the rise

Yet our cities are still designed around the stationary car.

This isnโ€™t about being ๐˜ข๐˜ฏ๐˜ต๐˜ช-๐˜ค๐˜ข๐˜ณ. Itโ€™s about being pro-people, pro-climate, and pro-livable cities.

Just reclaiming 10% of parking space could double the size of playgrounds, create new green corridors and free up space for housing and safer streets.

What would you prioritise if your city reclaimed even a fraction of its parking space?GrรถรŸere Bilddarstellung aktivieren,
